Unchecked inflammation and oxidative stress contribute to the progression of neurological diseases, yet the mechanisms by which the brain’s immune system mediates neuroinflammatory processes and impacts brain health remain largely elusive. My research program uses an integrative approach, combining systems neuroimmunology and functional genomics with disease models, to study the complex interactions at the brain-immune-blood axis. We focus on decoding how blood and other disease signals elicit microglial epigenetic regulation, redox homeostasis, and mitochondrial functions in the context of neuroinflammation, particularly in diseases such as multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s. The goal is to identify novel strategies for manipulating the brain’s immune system, aiming to develop innovative interventions against harmful inflammation and neurodegeneration.
